Five Pillars of Islam
Narated By Ibn 'Umar : Allah's Apostle said: Islam is based on (the following) five (principles):- To testify that none has the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is Allah's Apostle.
- To offer the (compulsory congregational) prayers dutifully and perfectly.
- To pay Zakat. (i.e. obligatory charity)
- To perform Hajj. (i.e. Pilgrimage to Mecca)
- To observe fast during the month of Ramadan.
A practicing Muslim is required to follow these five basic and important pillars in Islam.
- The first pillar lays the foundation of our faith and belief in Islam by attesting to the fact that there is no God but Allah and he alone has the right to be worshipped and Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H) is the messenger of Allah.
- To offer obligatory Salah at the prescribed times following the rules and regulations taught by Prophet Muhammad (P.B.U.H). The males are required to offer their Salah in congregation and the females at home (indoors).
- To donate a percentage (2.5 %) of your halal earning to charity for the benefit of the poor in the community every year.
- To perform the obligatory pilgrimage to Mecca once in their lifetime for those who can afford it.
- To observe obligatory fast in the month of Ramadan from dawn to sunset.
